BURLINGTON HOST (NOON) LIONS CLUB REPORT
Burlington Lions Roar at Oktoberfest
by Fred Harris
The 8th Annual Oktoberfest on the River was hosted by the Burlington Noon Lion Club. We are grateful and proud of our many sponsors, contributors and friends who helped make this another huge success.
In a major improvement this year we relocated the bandstands to the northeast corner. That freed up the use of the west balcony for tables and seating. Our capacity was larger yet less crowded. The Pepsi stand, offering soft drinks and short orders was moved to the verge of the north parking lot, freeing more space for people to sit and stroll east of the port.
What a pleasure it was to watch tiny dancers do the ‘Chicken Dance’ and folk of every generation dance and enjoy the playing of Herbie’s Little German Band, Richie Yorkovich & Polkarioty and the Lyle Beaver Trio. 90 plus year old Bessie Bell took the microphone and belted out a Czech folksong with the Yorkovich band. As always, the German style food and beverages were ravishingly enjoyed.
Our net income is all applied to our “We Serve” projects for children, youth and adults in Burlington and beyond. Where need is found, Lions are there to serve. Our special areas of service – Prevention, Care and Cure for problems with Sight, Hearing and Diabetes.
Our Oktoberfest and income of about $9,000 would not be possible without the generous support of our sponsors and supporters. Listed here are the Title Sponsors only: KKMI Radio - 93.5 FM, Burlington Bank and Trust, F & M Bank and Trust, MidwestOne Bank, Wal-Mart, Fleck Sales Co. and The Hawkeye.
