President's Message
The Lions of District 9EC just completed the convention this past weekend. Good presentations and a lot to absorb in a short period of time. New officers for the district for next year are: District Governor: Kathy Rhinehart of the Eldridge Club 1st Vice District Governor: Mike Fuller of the Muscatine Club 2nd Vice District Governor: Terry Durham of the Cedar Rapids Noon Club
My thanks go out to PDG Gary Glockhoff, Past President Walt Hartman and all the Cedar Rapids Thursday Noon Lions who attended the convention and supported me. A special thanks to Lion Margaret Debner who handled the registration for the convention and answered all those questions from the participants. We have done a lot and we should be pleased with our progress but there are a number of things to still accomplish before the end of the year. Our last fund-raising event is scheduled for Saturday, April 14. Sign up to help Lion Jan Federer and Lion Pat Gourley with the soup and chili supper. Sell those tickets and maybe just a few extras. Also remember the bake sale that netted us over $300 last year. This may make the difference in additional funding for the Sight and Hearing Committees for the year.
We all can easily help Lion Dave Higdon reach his new goal of $400 by the end of the year for Harrison School. Keep those coupons, caps, and ink cartridges coming. June is a very busy month beginning with Saturday, June 2, where we will have a display and conduct KidSight Screening at Tanager Place Festivities at the Rockwell Sports Complex. We follow that with the Iowa Lions Foundation Golf Tournament on Thursday, June 7 preceding the State Convention. The golf committee needs your help securing prizes and forming foursomes to play. Pick up some brochures and start talking to your golf friends. The State of Iowa Lions Convention is June 8-10. It could not be much closer than the Marriott here in Cedar Rapids. The club is doing a display on June 16 at the Farmers’ Market downtown. Cap the month off with our awards banquet at 6:00pm on Thursday night, June 21, a time to gather at the Longbranch for good conversation and recognition of our many accomplishments.
One last challenge we want to diligently work on is bringing prospects to the meeting that would like to become members of our club. We have added two new members this year and I would like to see the club grow by at least one this year.
Yours in Lionism, Terry
