President's Message
President’s Message: An old “preacher joke” tells of a newly-minted pastor serving her first Sunday in the new congregation. She gave a wonderful sermon, charging the congregation to go out into the world to share the mission of the church. She received any wonderful compliments from the parishioners, who knew this pastor was just what the congregation needed. The next week an even bigger crowd gathered to hear her preaching. At the appointed time in the service, she climbed into the pulpit and proceeded to deliver the exact same sermon as the week before! Again it was a wonderful delivery, but most who were present had already heard it. The next week and the week after that she again preached the same sermon. Finally, the chair of the church board spoke to her: “Pastor, we know you a wonderful preacher, but you have now preached the same sermon four weeks in a row. What’s with that”? “Well, Mr. Smith,” came the reply, “when you are all doing what I’ve preached about, I’ll go on to something new.” Sometimes, as your President, I feel like that preacher, in that I want to tell you the same things over and over again: Freedom Fest. Iowa KidSight. Pancake Breakfast. Chili and Chicken Soup Supper and Bake Sale (preferably WITH soup and baked goods). Harrison School projects. Golf Tournament. Our motto as Lions is “We Serve.” The list above includes many of the ways we serve. We also serve through our financial support to vision projects for adults, hearing aids, Iowa Lions Foundation, and Lions Club International Foundation, to name just some more. Our service does come partly through our donations of money, but it also comes through our donations of time for the projects we undertake. Join me. We Serve.
Yours in Lionism, Ed Breed
