A Distinguished Couple A Distinguished Couple

Hi, my name is Jean Bormann and this is my husband, Ron. I have been a member of the DeWitt Noon Lions for the past 10 years. I have served two terms as a tail twister and I am now proud to be the President. I am also serving as the Region II Zone II chair under the direction on District Governor Bob Holliday.

The DeWitt Noon Lions is a large and active club. We hold two pancake breakfasts each year - one on the Fourth of July and one in conjunction with our town celebration Autumn Fest. We also have a travelogue series from January through May which attracts people from many of our surrounding counties. We volunteer to be the keeper of the gates at our counties annual 4-H Club Show and assist our local Theisen's store with their ham and hot dog days. We also sell Giant Story Coloring Books at various events in our local area.

My fellow lions have honored me with several awards in addition to trusting me to lead their club. I was awarded the 2003-04 Whitten Service Award for our club and am a recipient of a Warren Coleman Honorary Award. Being recognized by a group of people I truly respect is only topped by knowing money was donated in my name to help the Lions Foundation out.

Being part of Lions is one of the greatest things I have done. When I recently received a letter from a young girl we sponsored to diabetic camp my heart melted. We had made a difference and I couldn't have been prouder.

I am also an active member of the National Federation of Press Women - Iowa Chapter and serve on the board of their Education Fund. I recently retired as a long time 4-H leader and am a member of The Sts Mary & Joseph Sugar Creek and Bryant Altar and Rosary.

I have been married to Ron for 25 years on October 2004. We have three grown daughters. Our oldest daughter Kelli recently received her masters from Iowa state and got married in July. Our middle daughter, Jamie, is a senior at The Franciscan University and our youngest, Jenna, is a sophomore at Drake University. I have been employed by The Observer for the past 16 years and long-time publisher Bob Parrott was instrumental in my involvement in Lions. My husband Ron is self employed. Ron and I own his families century farm and live in the house where he grew up. We run a 60-70 head cow/calf herd on the pasture and sell many of the calves as club calves. So I guess I am a real cowgirl.

I am very lucky to have the opportunity to serve this fine organization and invite anyone wishing to join to come to a meeting and see what lions is all about.

Tie Club

Tie Club

One of the greatest assets of a good Lions club are certain key members, such as your elected Tail Twisters. Our club had two of the best in the business this past year! Richard Kelly and Steve Thayer, both long time members of the Noon Lions generated tail-twisting income of over $3000 this past year. That amount, alone, was sufficient to fund three Warren Coleman awards for our club. The base program to support the many unique creations they generated was the "Tie Club". Mr. Kelly produced the ties, and PDG Richard Polansky provided his personal pin for each tie which was presented each week to a "lucky" member. Each recipient was instructed to wear his tie to every club function and meeting during the entire club year. Should they forget, Lions Kelly and Thayer would gently remind them with "graduating" fines that started at $.25 and grew to the members financial capability or the member grew to remember! Many more members received ties than are pictured here, and all of our members cooperated in this innovative and successful endeavor. The members of our "Tie Club" will long and fondly remember their membership and experience with these two expert Tail Twisters!
