SINCE 1953, THE DE WITT NOON LIONS CLUB HAS BEEN A VITAL PART OF OUR COMMUNITY
Since 1953, the De Witt Noon Lions Club has been a vital part of the De Witt Community, marshalling volunteers to assist with many civic projects, supporting youth activities, promoting sight-saving programs and contributing positively to the quality of life while also supporting the work of Lions Clubs International and the Iowa Lions Foundation.
With over 110 Members, we are committed to the Lion's motto, "We Serve."
To carry out this mission, we participate in several fund-raising activities and contribute financially to worth while causes. We further this mission by individual and group volunteer service.
One of our best fund-raising activity is the Travelogue Series which has been ongoing for 40 years. We have two pancake breakfasts each year and you will see us volunteering to keep the gates at the Clinton County Fair. In addition, we sell giant coloring books.
As Lions we are best known for our efforts to end preventable blindness. We also conduct vision screenings for younsters, provide eye exams, eyeglasses and hearing aids, as well, for those in need. In addition we have contributed to diabetes research and have sent children to diabetes camp. We have supported Habitat for Humanity, CROP Walks, the Community Thanksgiving Dinner and After Prom Event.
We have helped with money for the playground equipment and portable defibrillator for our police. Annually, we have presented $1,000 scholarship to a student at Central High School and invite seniors to attend weekly Club Meetings.
We sponsor a Boy Scout Troop and send delegates to the American Legion Boys and Girls State. Contributions have been made to Junior Achievment, Camp Courageous and the Make-A-Wish Foundation. Other foundations we have helped with are the Central Community Educational Foundation and the De Witt Area Fine Arts.
We assist financially at Christmas with the less fortunate and the Coats for Kids Program.
As needed we have volunteered with events at Genesis Medical Center-De Witt, West Wing Place and Amber Ridge.
