Adopt a Roadway
The cities of Mount Vernon & Lisbon have approved our request of a roadway adoption. We'll be picking up a section of the original Lincoln Highway between Mount Vernon & Lisbon 2 or 3 times throughout the year. Watch the calendar for dates and join us!

100% Contributing Club - Iowa Lions Eye Bank Memorial
Our club joins several others in the State who have contributed to the Iowa Lions Eye Bank Memorial & Healing Garden. We were presented with a Banner Patch during the 9x9 Spring Convention February 24, 2007.

Warren Coleman Recipients
The Warren Coleman Honorary Award is the highest honor conferred by the Iowa Lions Foundation. The award is named for longtime Executive Secretary-Treasurer Warren Coleman, who freely gave his time and dedication to the Iowa Lions Foundation and the programs for which it supports. It is given to a member who shows a deep commitment to the ideals of Lionsim and who show deep concern for the welfare of those in need.

Tree Lights in Mount Vernon
Our club spent a recent October Sunday morning taking lights out of the trees along downtown Mount Vernon. We'll go back after the City trims the trees and re-install new lights.

Minutes from the March 8, 2008 Meeting
Lisbon Lincoln Highway Lions Club

Called to order by President Loren Pike at 9:02 AM.

Present: Members Clair Whitman, Janette Whitman, Deb Mallie, Linnie Southard, Donna Nevins, Barb Pike, Loren Pike, Travis Jubeck, Peter Anderson, Nate Willems and guest, Mary Wolk.

Pledge of Allegiance was led by Loren Pike

A motion was made by Barb Pike and seconded by Donna Nevins for Approval of Minutes of the February 2008 meeting. Motion carried.

Treasurer Report
Treasurer, Donna Nevins reported $387.56 in the club’s project fund and $748.11 in the general fund account. Donna paid $189.00 for the order of big coloring books. A motion was made by Linnie Southard and seconded by Clair Whitman to approve the treasurer’s report. Motion carried.

Meals on Wheels
Discussion regarding volunteers to be servers and delivers relating to Meals on Wheels for the months of March, April and May. Servers for the month of March include Linnie Southard, Clair and Janette Whitman and delivery with Don and Linnie Southard. Servers for the month of April are Barb and Loren Pike and delivery being Paul and Deb Mallie. Servers for the month of May include Don and Linnie Southard and delivery being Travis Jubeck.

Iowa Kids Sight Service Project
Lion Member Barb Pike reported an additional six preschool children were screened in February. Two more pre-schools are to be screened in April or May. More information will follow. For further information, or to volunteer to help, please call Barb Pike at 319-455-4122.

Blood Drive
The next blood drive is scheduled for Saturday, April 19, 2008 from 9:00 AM until noon at the South East Linn Community Center in Lisbon. Nate Willems is the new coordinator and can be reached at 319-929-4543 to schedule an appointment or if there are any questions.

Trash Pick-Up
PLEASE NOTE: The semi-annual trash pick up scheduled for Sunday, April 13, 2008 @ 2:00 PM has been cancelled, due to the excessive amounts of snow. It will be rescheduled in May (date yet to be determined…if the snow ever ends!?).

RAGBRI
The club will be participating in the RAGBRI activities planned for July. Linnie Southard and Travis Jubeck will plan to attend the Lisbon History Center’s meeting on Wednesday, March 12, 2008, 7:00 PM relating to the club’s participation. More information to follow.
Big Coloring Books
Loren Pike reported the Big Coloring Books have arrived. A motion was made by Linnie Southard and seconded by Donna Nevins to sell the books: one book for $6.00 or two books for $10.00, motion carried. Please see Loren if you would like to purchase a Big Coloring Book for an Easter basket!

Cell Phone Collections
Donna Nevins reported she has cell phone bags to collect old, non-used cell phones. Drop boxes will be distributed around the community and at the schools for the public to donate old cell phones. A total of 50 cell phones must be collected before they can be sent in to receive money for the organization. Please contact friends, neighbors and co-workers to help collection old cell phones.

Club Pin
A sketch drawing of a Lisbon Lincoln Highway Lions Club pin was presented. The costs associated with producing a club pin is around $500.00. Discussion followed. Item being tabled until after the organization can obtain more funds. If interested in viewing a copy of the drawing, please see Loren Pike.

Lions Youth Exchange
Secretary, Deb Mallie inquired about donating $75.00 toward the Youth Exchange program discussed at the Zone Meeting held on March 4, 2008. Discussion followed regarding sending a student ambassador for this year’s Youth Exchange. Travis Jubeck may have a potential candidate. More info to follow. A motion was made by Barb Pike and seconded by Travis Jubeck to send a $75.00 donation to the Youth Exchange, motion carried.

District Foundation Donation
Peter Anderson spoke about a donation for the District Foundation which allows the organization to obtain a Warren Coleman Award. Last year’s winner was Donna Nevins. Due to limited funds the club is unable to provide enough donations to sponsor to receive this prestigious award. The club will be looking toward the future when more funds are available. A motion was made by Barb Pike and seconded by Linnie Southard to send a donation in the amount of $50.00, motion carried. Peter will take the donation with him to the March 29th meeting in Davenport.

Big Toys for Little Tots
The Third Annual Big Toys for Little Tots to be held Sunday, June 8, 2008 from 1:00 PM to 3:00 PM. Paul handed out contact card lists of donations from local businesses. The lists were distributed as follows:

Donna Nevins handed out receipt books to be given to the merchants. If a member does not have a receipt book, please call Paul Mallie at 319-455-5046 and one will be provided.
Paul reported the contact equipment to be lined up include: the Fire Department, Ambulance, Air Helicopter, Farm Machinery (tractor, combine), Semi, Cement Truck, and Race Cars. Additional contacts include 4-L for an ag sprayer, M&K Dust Control and Sindt Implement. If any additional ideas, please contact Paul via telephone or send Paul an e-mail at paulmallie@hotmail.com.
Doug Marshall will be in charge of the advertisement with the Sun newspaper and placing the information with the schools via their website.
Guest Speaker
PLEASE NOTE THERE WILL BE NO APRIL MORNING MEETING - GUEST SPEAKER SCHEDULED IN REPLACEMENT OF REGULAR MEETING APRIL 12, 2008.
Loren Pike has contacted Ray Holterman to speak about leader puppy training completed by inmates at the Rockwell City Prisons. The presentation will be held Saturday, April 12, 2008 from 1:00 PM to 3:00 PM at the United Methodist Church in Lisbon. This event will be open to the public. Free will offerings will be accepted for sponsorship of a puppy will be accepted. The cost of training a puppy is $500.00.

Officers may meet, briefly, after the meeting. Please be ready to meet, if needed.

Peace Poster Pizza Party
Linnie Southard and Barb Pike will be hosting a pizza party for the 11, 12 and 13 year olds that participated in the annual Peace Poster contest. Linnie will be in contact with Joyce Trotsky to determine a date as well as obtaining the silver dollars to be given to all who participated.
