Thanks to the diligent efforts of Ron Markway, a full slate of officers will be presented at
the April Meeting. They are as follows; President Kirk Shipley, 1st VP, Tom Cook, 2nd VP
Michael Haas, 3rd VP, Curt Darling, Secretary, Bill Shutters, Treasurer, Truman Lewis,
Tail Twister, Pat Finnerty, Lion Tamers, Steve Brown and Vaughn Noring, 2nd year Dir.
David Van Woert and Jim Epstein, 1st Year Directors, Jeff Keisler and Marilyn Markway,
Membership Chairman, Michael Berdofe, Associate Chairman Ron Markway and
Chaplains, Ron Hall and Norman Ullestad. The Secretary and Treasurer have served
for several years and would very much appreciate a member coming forward and taking
a turn at these most challenging offices.

Lions Marilyn Osborn, Lee Couch, Paul Harvey, Dave Van Woert, Truman Lewis, Ron
Markway and Jim Caldbeck parked cars for the Loop the Lake at Gray's Lake. Project
was organized by Larry Jablonski. Larry graded the effort as a “C+” Actually no one
coming to the event was delayed and things went smoothly. Only complaint the workers
had was that the coffee (promised) was not delivered. Some of the men skipped their
coffee at home and hope that they won't be let down again. As for the “C+” grade,
perhaps we should have a seminar on parking management for those of us who have
not had George Tremmel's experience. For all of the members who have not had
experience with spacing, twenty feet is adequate for the area between rows of cars and
depending on lot layout, nose to nose will usually work. Total work time, about one
hour. Hats and T Shirts are to be distributed to the workers at the April meeting.

Manpower is the answer to a successful parking project and we should all make every
effort to support Michael Haas in his efforts to run two major parking projects in the
coming months. Much of that parking will be on hard surface and up out of the mud.
Remember your help is needed. Perhaps our board should consider borrowing, renting
or buying vests and flags for our members when they are parking cars.

Larry Sprout reports that he has entered two events in this years Special Olympics. The
twenty meter walk and the soft ball throw. We will be waiting to hear his results..

The location markers for the walking/biking trail through Urbandale are being considered
as a project as a project by a scout, as a project for earning his Eagle Scout Award and
also by the park board. Perhaps the two entities could get together and then we could
help. This will be looked into as it is generally considered an excellent project.

President Michael plans to meet with our school superintendent and ask about the
expenses connected with the use of the school kitchen and equipment after hours.

If we have a good turnout of the incoming officers for 2008-2009 we might take
advantage and get a picture for next years directory. We can take a head count and see
how many turn up. It would be nice to have most of the officers in the picture.

The needs of the city's emergency response workers was discussed and the equipment
needs of the police and fire departments were going to be checked into. Along with the
Breakfast Lions we supplied a defibrillator for them a few years ago and the city was
very appreciative of that help.

In the lower picture: HyVee employees and President Berdofe presented a program on
the way those working on the Triathlon should represent the Lions Club and the HyVee
when dealing with the public during the Triathlon parking project. For the most part our
Lions members are naturally pleasant and will have little problem following the simple
rules suggested by the HyVee leadership. Just smile, say thank you and tell them you
are happy they are here. Pictured are HyVee employees Curtis Darling, Michael Haas,
Randy Collier and our President Michael. Curtis Darling and Michael Haas are also
Lions and Michael Haas is the Lion in charge of organizing the parking project. This is
probably our largest fund raiser and we should give Mike all the support we are able. He
is also taking care of the parking for the Principal Golf Tournament which is also one of
our major fund raisers.

Also pictured below are Immediate Past President Ron Markway who was presented a
Lions Membership Key. With him are his latest new members. His son Dennis, wife
Marilyn and Marilyn Osborn. Both Marilyn's are Past Presidents of the Lioness Club.
